Roy Williams’ celebrated his 800th career win last night with a victory over Syracuse. To celebrate the occassion, Jordan Brand gifted the University of North Carolina head men’s basketball coach with a stained oak box laser engraved with the number 800 including an autographed pair of Air Jordan 1 Low Pinnacle from Tar Heel legend Michael Jordan.
The commemorative box highlights moments throughout Williams’ career: Eight NCAA Final Fours, two National Championships and induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The inside lid also features his total number of wins at each of the school’s he’s coached (382 of which have come while at UNC), as well as the names of all his assistants.
Williams ranks ninth all-time in the NCAA for number of Division I wins. During his tenure as an assistant coach in his earlier years at UNC, Williams is credited for his help with recruiting then high-school standout Michael Jordan to the Tar Heels.
In addition to the commemorative box, Jordan Brand is providing 800 tees to UNC to be available for purchase with proceeds going to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, a cause Williams supports.
