The Air Jordan 1 ‘Rebellionaire’ will take a familiar yet classic colorway and give them a Banned makeover. The release is on the calendar for 2022 and will bring back the ‘X’ on the heel.
The ‘Rebellionaire’ Air Jordan 1 High OG is a tribute to the original ‘Banned’ Air Jordan commercial. In the commercial, the narrator is heard saying, ’Fortunately, the NBA can’t stop you from wearing them’ (referencing the Air Jordan 1 ‘Bred,’ although the true model banned was the Air Ship, but that’s another story).
Furthermore, the name ‘Rebellionaire’ is Jordan Brand’s way of stating Michael Jordan was a rebel. Each game, MJ wore the pair, and the NBA fined him $5,000. Using this as a marketing strategy, Nike offered to pay the fines if Jordan continued to wear the shoes. He did, and Nike would push market the shoes as being banned.
Instead of using a traditional Black and Red colorway, this Air Jordan 1 comes dressed in a Black, White, and Particle Grey color combination. The color blocking resembles that classic ‘Shadow’ Air Jordan 1. However, the shade of Grey used is lighter. The pair will also have a distressed leather upper and possibly 3M reflective (this is not confirmed). Throughout, you will see text that reads ’They can’t stop you from wearing them,’ referencing the commercial, and on the heel is a Red ‘X.’ Lastly, a White midsole and a Grey rubber outsole finish the look.
