As February marks Black History Month, Nike Portland held a special BHM event last week to auction off a number of rare items for charity. One such piece was this special 1-of-1 Air Jordan V.
Very similar to the “Wolf Grey” V, these kicks were inspired by the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first African-American aviators in the US armed forces and fought in World War II. Their story was recently told in the George Lucas film Red Tails. Specifically inspired by their iconic P-47 and P-51 fighters, the kicks feature a mostly grey upper with a red heel panel that sports “RT-A” embroidery.
The only pair in existence, the “Red Tails” Air Jordan V sold for $5,000.
