A year ago, Converse launched Renew to find solutions for post-consumer and post-industrial waste by using upcycled textiles and recycled cotton canvas blends. This summer’s colorful Renew capsule highlights Converse’s proprietary recycled cotton canvas process, using discarded cotton canvas scraps from the footwear manufacturing process to create new sneakers.
Created with a blend of 80% virgin cotton and 20% recycled cotton, the tri-panel execution on the Chuck 70 takes cues from earthy tones like prairie sand, branded melon, noble gray and mellow rose. A monotone egret variation uses an undyed yarn blend to form the fabric for the shoe’s canvas upper (It incorporates 30% egret and white recycled cotton canvas scraps with 30% recycled PET and 40% virgin cotton).
Presented in faded, color-blocked designs in Hi and Ox cuts, the Renew Tri-Panel Chuck 70 collection will be available May 15 on Converse.com.
