Marion Franklin Rudy, aka Frank Rudy, will forever be attached to Nike because he is the engineer that created Nike’s Air technology. Nike launched the first shoe with ‘Air’ technology, the Air Tailwind, in 1978. In 1980, the brand was able to patent the technology.
Celebrating his work, Nike Sportswear will release a special Nike Air Max 90 that comes dressed in a Summit White, Safety Orange, and Sesame color combination. Highlighted with EST. 1990 printed on the lateral Air unit, his name printed on the lace tips, and the blueprint on the insoles. Constructed with leather, mesh, and suede, the pair also comes with an air pressure hangtag.
