Addie Peterson sat down with Nike to contribute to the 2014 Doernbecher freestyle collection. Her addition is the Nike Air Max Thea for women.
When Addie was first born, she could not stop coughing. At the age of 1 Addie’s parents found out she had cystic fibrosis. There is no cure for cystic fibrosis but there was a plan to extend her life. At the age of 15, she wakes up at 6:30 am and takes enzymes, antibiotics, steroids, vitamins and reflux medicine. After breakfast she takes a one-hour nebulizer treatment to clear her lungs. When she is at school she takes more pills and blows into a tube to force her to cough. When she gets home, Addie does another nebulizer treatment, takes more pills at dinner and then another nebulizer. At times she has to sleep with a feeding tube to ensure she has proper nutrition.
Even against the odds and the rough battle, Addie has achieved a lot. She is an accomplished violinist and performs in youth orchestra. She also has taught herself how to play piano, she draws and writes poetry. When Addie has some downtown, she enjoys riding her longboard and hanging out with friends.
Addie’s creativeness shows in the Nike Air Max Thea with polka dots, black lace pattern and reflective material. Her montra “fight like a girl” and “just breathe” is featured on each shoe. A music-inspired logo is placed on the heel and a picture of her dog, Toby is on the tongue. A backpack as well as a hoody is available.
