The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle 20 (XX) Collection will be released during the Holiday 2024 season. The lineup includes six shoes: the Air Jordan 6, the Air Max Dn in two colorways, the Air 180, the Air Max SNDR, and the Air Zoom Pegasus 41.

In 2024, the Nike Doernbecher Freestyle will celebrate its 20th Anniversary and launch a new collection with Nike and Jordan Brand. The collection will be designed by OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital patients, and each pair will tell their story.
The Doernbeche Freestyle program and Nike initially connected in 2004. Marking 20 years of excellence, the two have raised $37 million by the end of 2023. With its new collection, the two may hit the $40 million milestone.
For the 2024 lineup, we again have some classic and new pairs designed by six kids. Returning is the Air Jordan 6, which is expected to launch with a new theme and by a new designer. The Air Max SNDR will be part of the collection and available in women’s sizes. Nike’s Air Max Dn, its latest Air Max shoe, and the Sabrina 2 will be released. Also arriving are the Air 180 and the Air Zoom Pegasus 41.

Nike Doernbecher Freestyle XX Collection Release Date
The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle XX Collection will be released at select retailers and online via Nike.com during the Holiday 2024 season. A fundraiser event will also be held in Portland, OR, on October 18th, 2024, at the Portland Art Museum, and a live auction will follow the unveiling. She lived an active lifestyle until she turned 11, that’s when Jillian received a liver transplant. She had the opportunity to design the Air Jordan 6, inspired by her gratitude and love for sports. Her Air Jordan 6 features interchangeable patches, unique toe boxes, and her handwritten mantra, “SPORTS ARE MY JOY.” The heart-shaped perforations are a reminder to live life with kindness, and “Give Life” is embroidered on the toe.

Sophie Jenkins loved playing soccer, running track, and participating in CrossFit Kids classes. In 2022, her leg started to hurt, and after further investigation by doctors, it revealed she had bone cancer. To treat the disease, Sophia had surgery to amputate part of her right leg and underwent months of chemotherapy. She would become a parasport athlete and taught herself how to do a one-legged backflip. Sophie designed the Nike Sabrina 2 that reflects her personality and what she loves, including pickle-shaped stuffed toys, floral stickers, and a pink fuzzy blanket. Using elements from her life, it has a “Sophia Strong” font, her favorite blanket on the collar, and stickers on the midsole. The shoes also come with a DIY friendship bracelet kit and a glow-on-the-dark outsole.

Tima Sviridenko suffers from XLP, an extremely rare immune system disorder. To help restart his immune system, Tima received a bone marrow transplant at Doernbeher. Tima designed his own Pegasus 41, which has tropical colors, as a tribute to his bone marrow donor, who lives in Florida. There are also design cues as a tribute to his cat, Murka, with a cat hanging from the lateral Swoosh and a cat paw print outsole. The sneakers also come with glow-in-the-dark red paw prints, a lace hanging patch of his favorite cat toy, and his name alongside his donor’s on the lace tips. Tima’s dreams include visiting Japan’s “cat island” and creating a robotic cat.

In 2019, Connor Kassing Fernández had an unexpected brand bleed. Then, in 2022, it happened again, but this time, doctors discovered a large brain tumor. Connor began chemotherapy, but in 2023, he experienced another brain bleed. OHSU neurosurgeons would take out a large part of the tumor in an operation that lasted 14 hours. He underwent months of recovery and intense rehabilitation to help with his memory and coordination impairments. Today, he had the chance to design his own Air Max Dn. The shoes feature the motto “Paso a Paso” (Step by step) on the Air unit in English and Spanish. The shoes also feature some of his favorite things, like sunrises and quesadillas, and musical notes from a piano duet he composed with his sister, Tess. He designed 17 versions, but Connor chose the Black and Gold color scheme. This pair also comes with elements reflecting his love for legos and drawing.

Quin Nims was born with a rare defect in her bladder and gastrointestinal system that required several major surgeries to correct. With a sunny personality, she designed her own Air Max SNDR in a bright colorway. The shoes feature splatter print, which she describes as “splashes of joy and power,” that symbolize the strength she went through during his surgery and recovery. The spiky mudguard represents her love of dragons and a creature she wrote about in school. In addition, the shoes feature hidden details, including her name and her mantra, “Tiny but Strong.” Other details include laces that sparkle and the colors Teal, Orange, and Purple that represent her style.

Inspired by his playful and energetic personality, he had the opportunity to design his own Nike Air 180. In addition, they come with soccer-inspired crests that reference Ja’Kai’s glucose monitor and “T1D” on the tongue.
