After a day of dialogue, interaction and ultimately, expression around sustainability on day one of the Nike Flyknit Collective – Shanghai, the region’s young creative talent from five different territories were treated to a workshop on lightness. Conceived by workshop curator ESKYIU (Marisa Yiu and Eric Schuldenfrei), “FIRE UP” was an opportunity for participants to explore the possibilities and relationships between sport and art.
The objective of the workshop was to celebrate the lightness and gracefulness of human form by producing light motion with LED lights and various sports, leveraging the natural energy of the Nike Festival of Sport in Shanghai. Elite young basketball players, skateboarders, NTC Hyperworkout stars, table tennis and badminton athletes joined young innovators from various creative disciplines and cities around the region in Nike’s innovative workshop space.
Participants were quickly introduced to LED technology by Hong Kong-based collaborators and regional industry leaders LEDArtist, and then basic photography skills using slow shutter speed. They were then challenged to choreograph, stage and direct shoots at each category station with the goal of creating output that capturesd the densest light, illustrating the fastest speed of play in the shortest amount of time.
The team that produced photography that most aptly portrayed the idea of lightness across the five categories were pronounced winners.
