Officially Introducing the Nike Kyrie Irving 1

The Kyrie 1 Story

Nowadays, each signature shoe has a story behind them. Certain details represent Irving in the shoes. It not only makes the sneakers interesting, but you can own a piece of the person that endorses them.

Hand-written details in Irving’s penmanship: #2 on the upper heel along with his personal signature on the inside of the tongue

Jagged pattern on the wrapped traction near the toe and heel counter with architectural angles are both inspired by the Sydney Opera House in Irving’s homeland of Australia

The acronym “JBY” that sits beneath Irving’s new logo on the outsole stands for “Just Be You,” a motto that Irving hopes inspires kids as they establish their own unique identities

When Leo Chang and Nike sat down to design the Kryie 1, they wanted a look and feel to match his speed and quickness. The Kyrie 1 needed to be lightweight, have excellent traction and be bold and responsive.

The Kyrie 1 ‘Dream’ comes when Irving was a child and he would wake up on Christmas morning and lacing up to play professional basketball, of course at the time it was a dream that became a reality. The base is done in black that features colorful objects from Irving’s life journey like a skateboard, stars from the Australian flag, brass musical instrument and his jersey number. Releasing in adult and kids sizes on December 23rd 2014.

The Kyrie 1 Deceptive Red will be one of those shoes that sneakerheads will want that uses predominate red. Inspiration comes from his out of this world quickness and accelerated speed off the step. Releasing globally on January 10th 2015.
