Us 80’s babies can remember vividly when Allen Iverson took the basketball world by storm, first appearing seemingly out of nowhere at Georgetown University (after a high school fight nearly derailed his basketball career), starring for the Hoyas for 2 wild and crazy seasons, before moving on to the NBA and the Philadelphia 767ers as the first pick in the ’96 NBA Draft. Needless to say, he was an icon in the making from the moment he hit that Georgetown court; his signature shoes, courtesy of Reebok (whom still owes him a $20 Million “Rainy Day” trust fund, due in 2030), have also reached “icon” status (well, at least some of them), featuring bold and flashy, compact-yet-powerful designs that represent AI to a T. The Reebok The Answer 1 Retro “Black/Gold”, another one of Reebok’s signature sneakers to have gained popularity since their original release, hopes to further along the Iverson legend.
Possibly the best of the Iverson bunch, the Reebok The Answer 1 makes its comeback after a 6 year hiatus this Friday, May 24th. The first in the Answer series (after the instant classic The Question 1) and 2nd signature AI shoe, the Answer 1 was also the first of his shoes to feature Reebok’s DMX technology, giving the shoe an extremely comfortable feel.
Beyond the translucent, DMX-laced soles with metallic silver and gold undertones and speckling, the shoes feature a black leather upper, white and gold midsole, silver, white, and gold accents, and the gold “I3” symbol towards the heel of the shoe. They will retail for $150 and be available at select retailers across the country. For those who want to secure their pair ahead of the official release date of May 24th, you can pre-order a pair now at Sneaker Bistro here.
Will you be copping a pair this Friday? Saving up for the Memorial Day weekend restocks? Spent entirely too much money on kicks this year and being forced to stick with a strict “Nike Air Monarch IV Only” diet? Let us know in the comments below, and check out some more pics after the jump!
