The Nike Air Flightposite One, originally known as the Air Flightposite, was released in 1999 and part of the Alpha Projects series. With an original price of $160, the shoes will now retail for $240. Available in multiple colorways, including a team bank series, the most common three pairs are the “Metallic Gold,” “Black Metallic Silver,” and “Eggplant.” This section will discuss all upcoming colorways, release dates, and the history of the Nike Flightposite 1.
The Flightposite One was designed by Eric Avar, a renowned Nike designer known for his groundbreaking work in basketball footwear. Avar drew inspiration from a stealth fighter jet’s sleek and aerodynamic design, infusing the shoe with a sense of speed and agility. One of the more unique elements of the shoes is the Foamposite upper, providing a lightweight and durable shell that molds to the shape of the wearer’s foot over time.
Another highlight of the Flightposite is the lacing system, which features a shroud with a zipper closure. This feature gives the shoes a futuristic look.
To help promote the shoes, Nike had several athletes star in commercials. These included Kevin Garnett, who played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs. Jason Kidd and Allan Houston were also spotted wearing the Flightposite One on the court.
A handful of colorways were introduced in 1999, including the “Metallic Gold,” “Black,” and “Eggplant” renditions. Nike Basketball also released “Team Bank” (TB) Flightposite colorways, which matched team uniforms. Now considered unicorns, some of the colors consisted of “White Carolina Blue,” “Navy,” and “Pearlized Navy.” In 2008, we saw a retro release of the “Gold” and “Black” iterations, and throughout the years, we would see new color themes debut.
