Nike Kobe 6
The Nike Kobe 6, also known as the Nike Zoom Kobe 6, was released in 2010 and is another model designed by renowned sneaker designer Eric Avar. The Kobe 6 continued its predecessors’ legacy of innovation and performance while introducing several new features and technologies. Upon its original debut, the retail price was $130. However, the current retail price is $190 for the Protro pair.
Nike Kobe 6 History
One of the most notable features of the Kobe 6 was its lightweight and low-cut design, which gave Kobe Bryant the agility and freedom of movement he desired on the court. The shoe’s upper was constructed from synthetic materials and mesh, providing durability, breathability, and lightweight support. It is highlighted by a textured upper inspired by snakeskin, another nod to Bryant’s “Black Mamba” moniker.
The Kobe 6 also introduced Nike’s proprietary Zoom Air cushioning technology in the forefoot and heel, providing responsive cushioning and impact protection. Additionally, the shoe featured a dual-density sock liner and a carbon fiber shank plate for added stability and support during intense gameplay.
While multiple models from Kobe Bryant’s signature line are highly sought after, the Kobe 6 is probably the most sought-after. Even today, All-Stars across the NBA are lacing up the kicks, including Devin Booker (before he received his signature shoe) and DeMar DeRozan.
Nike Kobe 6 Colorways
While every Kobe 6 colorway is an instant sell-out, a handful of pairs are considered grails. One of, if not the top, colorways is the “Grinch,” a Christmas-inspired release. Furthermore, we saw the “All-Star” debut, which was dressed in the West uniform colors. A couple of other gems include the “Italian Camo,” “Chaos,” “3D Lakers,” “BHM,” and “Orange Country.”
Nike Basketball and Kobe Bryant introduced the “Protro” series, which the Kobe 6 Protro was released in 2020. We saw the return of the “Grinch” and All-Star” iterations. However, in 2022, Nike Basketball launched the “Mambacita” Kobe 6 Protro. The shoes were a tribute to Kobe Bryant’s daughter, Gigi Bryant, who tragically passed away with her father in a helicopter crash.
