Soccer and skateboarding aren’t two things that typically go together very often; though both sports are performed with the legs and feet, they are worlds apart. However, Nike SB has decided to mash the two together with the upcoming Nike SB Lunar Gato, a skate version of their popular soccer shoe (or as footballers like to call them, boots). For this particular version (set for a 2014 release), Nike SB has called upon the team at the seminal skate mag Thrasher to help them design this pair of kicks, dubbed the Nike SB Lunar Gato “Strike And Destroy”.
The shoes – whose name is a play on the famous Thrasher tagline “Skate and Destroy” – feature a black and orange upper, with the orange portion featuring a barbwire-type print. The upper sits atop a white Lunarlon midsole, which is completed with a gum outsole. Nike SB branding is set in orange, while black laces tie things up. The new “Strike and Destroy” tagline is featured on the insoles of the shoes, written in the same font used by Thrasher for their “Skate and Destroy” logo. For those wondering how the idea to revamp the Nike Lunar Gato into a skate shoe came about, look no further than skater Alex Olson, who, instead of getting his own signature sneaker, decided to update the aforementioned soccer shoes, which he had already skated in the past.
