Founded in 2002 by two friends from UC Berkeley (Carol Lim and Humberto Leon), Opening Ceremony started off as a “place to share their passion for travel, art, and fashion”… To a single store in downtown New York, to what is now a global community with outposts in New York, London and Los Angeles, and a department store in Tokyo. Talk about making your dreams a reality! To commemorate their year in Belgium, Opening Ceremony teamed up with the Magritte Foundation and created what some may call wearable art using the Van Authentic Low Top as their canvas.
The collaboration is a tribute to one of the country’s most famous and influential artists, Rene Magritte, and showcases five of her pieces of surrealist art. Included in the collection are The Blow to the Heart, Good Connections, The Ladder of Fire, Sheherazade, and the King’s Museum. All five pairs are scheduled to release this May for $135 each. Those who can’t wait can pre-order now online.
